Library / Makerspace
Having had Make Create Innovate to our school library a number of times now, I can highly recommend their workshops. They specialise in the nexus of kinaesthetic, artistic and technical skills development, appealing to all learning styles. It has been especially beneficial to disengaged students who develop a positive attitude toward investigating and problem-solving. History tells us that Benjamin Franklin used a Philadelphia library space for some of his early exploration of electricity. At Make Create Innovate, we love that the library space has come full circle in its transformation into our new makerspaces around the world.
We know that science cannot exist without creativity. Why not follow in the footsteps of Benjamin Franklin by delving into circuitry and begin your an exploration of interactive technology.
We offer hands-on, fun activities to facilitate cross-curricular learning in junior and senior cycle STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths). We also support schools in the development and delivery of Transition Unit Top Ups and Tasters on ‘Technology’ and ‘Science and Society’ for the purpose of bridging learning gaps and stimulating interest in Leaving Certificate courses for all genders.
Knowing how skills in creativity are vital to innovation and enterprise, the arts are key to our approach. Artistic, design and creative presentation activities provide accessible and engaging entry points into science and technology for young people. We mentor them in the production of responsive systems involving sound, light and other operations for the benefit of their projects, coursework and portfolios. We aim to compliment the role of teachers by reinforcing educational experience and cultivating exploration through building, making and innovating. Our method promotes self-directed inquiry, ultimately paving the way for progression into scientific and technology fields at third level.
We offer workshops and courses that give learners the opportunity to make, build, create and explore. Each session is hands-on, working in teams to solve problems, using design and creativity to find new solutions. Activities include circuit making, programming with Sonic Pi and Arduino IDE, interactive design with MaKey MaKey, digital media production, basic robotics and more.
We encourage all participants to take greater responsibility for their own learning, finding their own answers to questions that arise. We allow space for reflection about how we learn and how we interact with others.
